Recent life events preceding suicide attempts in a personality disorder sample: Findings from the collaborative longitudinal personality disorder study. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 73, 99-105.

This article discussed the life events that might precede a suicide attempt in people with personality disorders.  The three year longitudinal study examined whether the personality disorder subjects were likely to experience a specific life event the month of and before a suicide attempt.  They found that certain negative life events, such as those dealing with love and legal matters, are predictors for impending suicide attempts by those with personality disorders.

This article was extremely interesting.  To be able to see an event in a person with a personality disorder’s life and tell that they now have a high risk for committing suicide is a very helpful tool.  Moreover, the article had clear operational definitions and was easy to follow.
