Jack Lennox, Head Coach
The
transition from high school to college coaching was a smooth one for Jack
Lennox last season.
After a highly successful career at nearby Scranton Prep High School,
one which included nine division championships, six district singles and
doubles titles, along with Prep's first state crown in girls doubles in
1998, Lennox took over the Royals last spring and guided Scranton to a
10-2 record, including a 5-1 record in the MAC Freedom League and a berth
in the championship match of the MAC tournament.
A native of Scranton, he played on the first varsity tennis team at
the former Scranton Central High School. In addition to attending
Lackawanna Junior College and Wilkes University, he served in the United
States Coast Guard for four years.
He is widely recognized for his coaching and playing ability.
He was named The Scranton Times and the United States Tennis Association
(USTA) Middle States Coach of the Year in 1997. He serves as a player-captain
for both the USTA District and Inter-District men's-35 teams. He
is also a member of the Scranton Tennis Club Board of Directors.

2001 Season Preview
Talk about making a first impression!
Jack Lennox took over The University of Scranton men's tennis team last
spring and led the Royals to a 10-2 overall record, a 5-1 mark in the Middle
Atlantic Conference Freedom League and a berth in the championship match
of the MAC tournament. Only a pair of losses to King's College prevented
Scranton from posting a perfect season.
With its entire lineup intact, it's no surprise the Royals will look
to record their sixth straight winning seasons and challenge for the Freedom
Conference and Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)
titles in 2001.
Juniors Jeff Rucinski and Bill Hughes will be featured at the top tier
of the lineup. Rucinski went 7-4 last spring at the number one position
to push his career record to 13-7, while Hughes' 9-4 mark at the second
singles makes his all-time record 17-7.
Another junior will also play a significant role in the Royals lineup.
Mike Hourigan followed up an 11-2 freshman campaign by going 9-4 at the
number three singles, while senior Brian Perkowski will be featured at
number four after carding a 6-4 season last spring.
Senior Jeremy Gaynor recorded his third straight winning season last
spring to improve his career record to 22-4, and is expected once again
to anchor the lower tier of the lineup at number five. Junior Colin
Felleman, perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2000 season, will hold down
the number six spot after leading Scranton with a 13-1 record, a remarkable
accomplishment since he competed only in doubles in 1999.
Speaking of doubles, Lennox is not expected to tweak his lineup too
much. Rucinski and Hughes, 5-5 a year ago, will play number one,
while Gaynor and Perkowski, who carded a 9-3 mark last spring, will be
featured at number two. A number of different combinations will play
at the number three spot.
