Colleen Mahon has made the transition from a successful playing career to coaching.

A native and current resident of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, Mahon was a two-sport standout at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral science with a minor in art in 2005.

Her experience as a standout on the Ranger field hockey and softball teams has served her well in her capacity of head coach of both of those same programs at The University of Scranton

She has continued the Royals's winning ways in field hockey, leading the team to 27 wins in three seasons, including back-to-back tournament berths (2005, 2006) in Scranton's previous affiliation with the Freedom Conference of the Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation.  The Royals also reached the championship game of the Freedom Conference tournament in 2006.

In two seasons, the softball team has enjoyed a dramatic about-face.  After winning only seven games in her inaugural campaign, Mahon guided the Royals to a school-record 27 wins and a berth in the Landmark Conference tournament this past spring with a roster that included six freshmen and seven sophomores among its 19 players.

As a four-year letter-winner on the Drew University field hockey team, Mahon was a four-time all-Freedom Conference first-team selection and was named the league's rookie and player of the year in 2001 and 2004, respectively.  She is also the Rangers' all-time leader in assists (47) and consecutive games played and started (85).  She was also named third-team all-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) in 2004.

In three seasons as a member of the Ranger softball team, she batted .332, which is 10th on the school's all-time list, and finished fourth in career stolen bases (22).    She earned all-regional honors in 2003 after leading Drew with a .358 batting average.  During her tenure, Drew posted a 65-40 (.619) record.  She capped off her career by being named the Drew University Alumni Association Female Athlete of the Year in 2005.
