Former Lackawanna Trail High School and Fairfield University tennis standout Elizabeth Steege will begin her second season as head coach of the Royals' women's tennis program.  She led Scranton to a 6-5 mark during the 2006 fall season.

A resident of nearby Clarks Summit, Steege enjoyed a successful career on the high school and collegiate level.  At Lackawanna Trail High School, she was a sectional and nationally-ranked player who won four Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District II girls’ singles titles.  She also competed in the PIAA state championships four times.

Upon graduation from Lackawanna Trail, she received a scholarship to attend Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut, which competes on the NCAA Division I level.  She was a four-year letter-winner on the Stags’ women’s tennis team and captured the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubles title in 1998.  She was also a member of two teams that won MAAC team titles and two other teams that advanced to the championship match.  A Dean’s List student, she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in English Writing in 2000.

For the past seven years, Steege has been a teaching professional for children and players of all ages.  Since 2005, she has served as associate tennis professional at Birchwood Tennis and Fitness Club in Clarks Summit.
