Elizabeth Steege became the tenth head women's tennis coach in University of Scranton history in the fall of 2006.

Her short tenure has already produced back-to-back winning seasons and consecutive postseason tournament berths, including a championship match appearance in Scranton's first year as a member of the Landmark Conference.  Individually, five of her players have earned all-conference recognition.

A resident of nearby Clarks Summit, Steege enjoyed a successful career on the high school and collegiate level.  At Lackawanna Trail High School, she was a sectional and nationally-ranked player who won four Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District II girls' singles titles.  She also competed in the state championships four times.

Upon graduation from Lackawanna Trail, she attended Fairfield University (Conn.), an NCAA Division I program that competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).  A four-year letter-winner on the Stags' women's tennis team, she captured the MAAC doubles title in 1998 and was also a member of two MAAC championship teams and two others that advanced to the championship match.  A Dean's List student, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Writing in 2000.
