Joseph Boga, Trumpet

Joseph Boga, a senior honor roll student at Abington Heights High School, studies jazz trumpet with Wynton Marsalis, orchestral trumpet with Jeffrey Curnow, and has recently begun pursuing additional trumpet study with Mark Gould. Joseph performs with The Jazz Museum in Harlem All-Stars and The Loren Schoenberg Big Band, and has appeared as a guest performer with The Wynton Marsalis Quartet, The Wycliffe Gordon Quintet, The Aaron Diehl Trio, The Dominick Farinacci Quartet, David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band, The Jen Krupa/Leigh Pilzer Quintet, and The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra.  He has performed in a diverse array of venues throughout the Northeast.

Joseph also leads his own groups - The Joseph Boga Quartet and Quintet - and composes and arranges music for jazz groups. His first commissioned composition for big band will be premiered at the Delaware Water Gap Celebration of the Arts Festival by the CotaCats Big Band in September 2008. 

Boga has received many musical awards and honors, among them achieving finalist status for The North American High School Grammy Jazz Ensemble and numerous qualifications and participations in Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Festivals where – in 2008 – Joseph earned the position of principal trumpet in the Pennsylvania All-State Orchestra. 

Locally, Joseph is a member of Performing Arts Institute Civic Symphony Orchestra; The CotaCats Big Band; The University of Scranton Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Concert Band, and String Orchestra; and the Abington Heights High School Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Concert Choir.
