Day Care Credential Certificate

PA Day Care Directors Credential Program 

Graduate Level Courses, 9 graduate credits, Credential Program.

Lackawanna County Workforce Investment Board (WIB) awarded a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to support the attainment of the Day Care Director Credential through The University of Scranton.  The credential consists of three, on-line graduate level courses for administrators, directors, and owners of child care facilities in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  The purpose of the grant initiative is to enhance the quality of day care services throughout the Northeast region under the Keystone STARS Standards.

 

 Keystone STARS is an initiative of the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) to improve, support, and recognize the continuous quality improvement efforts of early learning programs in Pennsylvania.

 

By July of 2008, all Child Care Directors will be required to have a Day Care Director’s Credential

 

The Day Care Director Credential is offered online through The University of Scranton; and WIB funding is available to support 75% of the costs of attaining this credential.  Employers were responsible for remaining 25% of the costs.

 

Day Care Directors from NE PA were eligible to apply: Counties included: Berks, Bradford, Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming.   In addition, participants had to meet the University of Scranton’s eligibility requirements and complete the application for admission to The University of Scranton online program www.uscranton.com.

 

The first course began on March 3, 2008, with the following two courses beginning on May 5, 2008 and June 30, 2008. 

 

Courses Description

EADM 501 Educational Administration  (3 credits)
A foundations course in general school administration, involving philosophical bases, organization in democratic society, administration of instruction and personnel. Required of all students beginning a major in educational administration and a prerequisite for other courses in educational administration.

 

ECUI 506 Curriculum Theory and Development (3 credits)
Principles and curriculum construction, which underlie the reorganization of the program of studies for elementary and secondary schools, sources of the curriculum, methods of organization, structure of the knowledge and curriculum planning and development.

 

EADM 526 Principles & Practices of Supervision (3 credits)
A description of a philosophy of supervision, principles of supervision, the role of the supervisor, planning a supervisory program, techniques of supervision, evaluation, coordinating the instructional program, and trends in supervision.
