Enzyme mechanisms and kinetics and the thermodynamic basis of intermediary metabolism are major themes. The accompanying laboratory involves experiments using techniques used in characterization of biopolymers and study of enzyme kinetics.
The discussion of intermediary metabolism is continued from Chemistry 450 with emphasis on lipid protein and nucleic acid metabolism. Chemical aspects of molecular biology, including DNA replication, gene regulation and protein biosynthesis are included.
