The Writing Center
Meet the Consultants
Daniel Brennan
Daniel Brennan was born and raised in Scranton and has traveled far and wide within its boundaries, from East to West Mountain and from the edge of Moosic to the Dunmore border. He holds a Bachelor of English and Philosophy degree from the University of Scranton, and he is currently pursuing a Masters in Software Engineering degree. He enjoys science fiction, crossword puzzles and perusing the pantheon of forgotten B grade horror movies in any number of used media outlets.
Natalie Burke
Hi! I'm Natalie. I'm a sophomore. I have a theology major with a concentration in Pre-Med. I love horseback riding, dancing, acting, and of course writing.
Nick Caselli
Hello, my name is Nick. I am an undergraduate finance major and a member of the class of 2012. I look at writing not only as an abstract art, but also as a logical progression. In doing so, I feel that I am well equipped to assist students at all stages of the writing process. I am very excited about working at the Writing Center and truly believe that every consultation is an opportunity to help both the client and myself to grow as writers. I encourage anyone to come to the Writing Center with any writing questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting with you.
Jenna Gilligan
My name is Jenna and I'm a senior English major with a concentration in Writing and minors in Theology, Business, and Human Resources. I love old library books, the NYC subway, sleep, sci fi, crossword puzzles, baseball, and grammar. I like talking about writing, so indulge me and come visit the Writing Center!
Caitlin McCarthy
I am a junior Biology and Biomathematics major in the Honors program. During the school year, my time is divided rather unevenly between class work, extracurricular activities, and a social life. I enjoy reading and crocheting in rare free moments. I'm happy to work in the CTLE and help students improve their writing.
John Sakson
John is a senior biology major with aspirations to enter dentistry. He enjoys writing all types of essays—technical, literary, or otherwise. Outside of school, John loves spending time hiking, skiing, hunting, playing ultimate frisbee, or with just about any type of video game.
Mary Ann Smith
Hi all, I’m Mary Ann, a current grad student and University of Scranton alumni from 2007, who just couldn’t get enough of the Scranton experience and the Writing Center. As an undergrad, I was an Environmental Science major, but now in my possibly last year of graduate studies, I’m working on my Masters in Biochemistry. I keep busy over in the Chemistry and Biology departments, especially since I’m a graduate teaching assistant for Anatomy and Physiology lab, which means I teach about the human body and then help students dissect organs from previously living animals. I love music, so when I actually get out of the office and classroom, I’m usually down in the band room (AKA Boga’s or Houlihan) for Singers Rehearsal. (Yeah, Sopranos Rock!) I really don’t keep to any of my old hobbies for pure fun anymore, since right now research just comes first. On the research deal, I’m working on saving the planet again through the development of bioethanol from food scraps. It’s interesting, but smelly. The future it seems is much closer than I originally thought, but I’m not exactly ready to move on yet, so I may stay at Scranton another few years or eternity if it shall be. I am interested in attending the MBA program at Scranton and teaching in local colleges before I go for a chemistry doctorate and law school in the next few years. I guess that’s it. Can’t wait to see you all for an appointment- or just stop by to say “Hi”.
Karen Waldeck
Karen Waldeck recently completed an undergraduate study of sacred texts of all kinds, graduating summa cum laude from the University of Scranton in Spring '09 with majors in English Literature and Theology. Karen now focuses her insatiable desire for education on graduate pursuits, working toward the teaching Masters here at da U. Like a cat or new age spiritualist Karen has had many lives. She formerly majored in Speech Communication and Rhetoric at SUNY Cortland and spent two decades as a Market Research Executive in Philadelphia. Outside the Writing Center Karen occupies herself as wife to the neuroscientist Dr. Robert Waldeck, mom to the remarkable Benjamin Waldeck and chief caretaker to two cats, two dogs and two surprisingly enjoyable rats. Inside the Writing Center such occupations rarely arise.
Rosey Wong
Rosey is a Sophomore English/History major from Henryville, Pennsylvania. At Scranton, she's also involved with the University Players, the Aquinas and the Political Discussion Association. In addition to working at the Writing Center, she loves comic books, sci-fi/fantasy, anime, drawing and British television. Most of all, Rosey looks forward to working with students at the Writing Center.
