Desktop & Instructional Resources staff have begun extensive testing of Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows Vista, in an effort to provide the University community with a smooth introduction of this product into the campus computing environment. The current window of research has not allowed us to adequately develop a complete support model for Vista or to fully test interoperability issues with existing University products and services. Once testing is complete, results will be used to formulate a campus deployment plan, and users will be apprised of the next steps.
Past experience is that early adoption of a new PC operating system is most appropriate for individuals with significant PC technical expertise and interest in specific new features. These early users of Vista should plan on encountering problems that interfere with their work until resolved through subsequent releases of Vista or other software packages.
DIR recommends that individuals delay installing Windows Vista at this time. If you should choose to upgrade to Vista on your personally owned computer, please be aware that a number of University services may not run properly.
