Due to concerns regarding disk quota, network traffic, and the undesirability of junk e-mail, a new mass e-mail policy has been approved. The criteria for sending mass e-mail messages are:
1. T
he information must be University related.
2. The information must be of a critical nature
(something recipients would need to know).
3. The message must be short (1-2 paragraphs).
4. Only one message per topic will be sent.
5. Announcements of a general nature may be posted
on Royal-News, My Scranton,
and/or Bulletin Board (BBOARD).
The process for sending mass e-mail is:
1. The mass e-mail originator sends their e-mail
message to the IR Assistant Director
(Gail.Bontrager@scranton.edu)
with a cc to the Assistant Help Desk Coordinator
(Donald.McCall@scranton.edu
)
2. If the message is deemed appropriate, the
message is sent out to specified groups under the originator’s name.
3. If the message is not deemed appropriate,
the originator is notified.
4. Appeals for denied messages may be made
to Jerry DeSanto.
Examples of messages suitable for mass e-mail include but are not limited to:
• Power shutdowns
•University-wide cancellations due to bad
weather
• Notices specific to a particular class which
contain vital information (e.g. class formals, memorial services for a
class member, etc.)
• Notices of a time-sensitive nature
If you have any questions about whether or not a message is appropriate
for mass e-mail, please contact Gail
Bontrager or Don McCall at 941-4357.
