Mary Jane S. Hanson, PhD, RN, CRNP, CS

Education University of Pennsylvania Ph.D, Post-master’s certificate Family Nurse Practitioner, Post-master’s certificate Adult Nurse Practitioner, M.S.N. Adult Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist; Cedar Crest College B.S. in Nursing.

Experience Dr. Hanson has teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Her current teaching responsibilities include family nurse practitioner theory and issues in advanced practice nursing at the graduate level, and pharmacology at the undergraduate level. In addition, she serves as the Director of the Graduate Program in the Department of Nursing. Dr. Hanson also has a part-time practice as a family nurse practitioner at a rural primary care office in the Poconos.

Research Dr. Hanson has published over 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Nursing Research, Western Journal of Nursing Research, Nursing, American Journal of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Lippincott’s Primary Care Practice, and American Journal of Critical Care. She has also presented numerous papers at scientific meetings and symposia including Eastern Nursing Research Society, American Nurses Association, and Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. In addition, she was the author of a $500,000 grant the University received from the federal government for the Nurse Anesthesia Program.

Hobbies When not teaching, practicing, or involved in research, Dr. Hanson enjoys riding and showing her Arabian horses “Bandi” and “Lace,” dancing, swimming and going to movies.

Personal Statement “The discipline of Nursing provides a framework for me to practice, to teach, to conduct research, and to live. Nursing is, for me, understanding and accepting each person as an individual, in their own unique environment, and providing appropriate support to enable them to achieve optimal physical and psychological health and well-being.”
