Harry R. Dammer is Professor and Chair of Sociology/Criminal Justice. Dr. Dammer received an A.S in Police Science from Bergen Community College (NJ), B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Dayton (OH) in 1979, M.S. in Education from Dayton in 1981, and the Ph.D. from The Rutgers University School of Criminal Justice (NJ) in 1992. In 1993-94 was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach and conduct research in Germany.

He is the author of Religion in Corrections (American Correctional Association, 1999) and co-author (with Jay Albanses and Erika Fairchild) of Comparative Criminal Justice (Wadsworth/Thompson Press, 2006) and co-author (with Todd R. Clear) of The Offender in the Community (Wadsworth/Thompson Press, 2003). He has also published or co-published numerous articles, manuals, and professional reports on a variety of criminal justice topics. In 2002 Dr. Dammer served on the Editorial Board of the Encyclopedia of Crime and Punishment. He has been active on numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the American Correctional Association. From March, 2003 to March, 2005 he served as chair of the International Section of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.

Dr. Dammer has professional experience as a probation officer and served as a consultant for the National Institute of Corrections, the American Correctional Association, National Conference of Christians and Jews, and private law firms. He has made numerous presentations at professional conferences in the United States and has served as guest lecturer in Canada, S.Korea, Hungary, Greece, Switzerland, Germany, England, and Poland.

In addition to the Fulbright Scholarship, Dr. Dammer received the Award for the Outstanding Criminal Justice Educator by the Buffalo State College Criminal Justice Alumni Chapter (September 2000) and was chosen by the Bergen Community College, Paramus, NJ Alumni Association to be among the first two inductees into the College's Alumni Hall of Fame for Distinguished Alumni (April, 1996). He was picked to be among Who's Who Among America's Teachers, 1998.

The courses taught by Dr. Dammer include juvenile delinquency, criminology, penology, community corrections, comparative criminal justice, and sociology of sport.

On the personal side, Dr. Dammer was born in Jersey City, NJ and grew up in Ridgefield, NJ. He currently resides in Clarks Summit with his wife (Eileen Sulzbach-Dammer) and daughters. His personal interests are jogging, golf, college basketball, and he is an avid Yankees fan.
