Sociology Minor Requirements

A minor in Sociology wi ll require eighteen (18) credits. There are three required courses:

  • Soc. 110: Introduction to Sociology

  • Soc. 112: Social Problems

  • Soc. 318: Sociological Theory

The following elective courses are strongly recommended by the department in the Sociology sequence:

  • Soc. 234: Cultural Anthropology

  • Soc. 231: Urban Sociology

  • Soc. 224: Amer ican Minority Groups

  • Soc. 226: Sociology of Work and Professions

Why minor in Sociology?

A variety of courses are also available to the pre-medical major and psychology major to enrich the comprehension and understanding of social and cultural factors affecting physical and mental health. Students whose career goals involve extensive contact with the public, including business, marketing and communication majors, could profit from a minor in sociologyas a means toward greater understanding of the complex social and cultural world defining and shaping the life experiences, needs and concerns of their future clients or customers.
