Student Advisement

The department maintains an active advising program in which faculty work closely with students in order to develop their academic interests. Individual students are encouraged to explore and develop both intellectual and career interests by pursuing individual studies in human relations, social work, and other interdisciplinary programs, faculty/student research opportunities, and local community internships.

College of Graduate and Continuing Education (CGCE) students are assigned to a departmental advisor for their freshman through senior years. College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) students in their freshman year are assigned to the CASAAC (College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center). For the CAS departmental majors' sophomore through senior years, a departmental advisor is assigned to them. Both CAS and CGCE students are encouraged to visit their advisor not only at registration time, but also as the need arises (to discuss majors, courses, careers, etc.) As pre-registration time approaches, students will pick up their advising packets from the Registrar's Office. Students are encouraged to contact the departmental secretary for an appointment with their advisor or sign the appointment sheet on their advisor's office door. Students must get the approval (signature) of their departmental advisor and PIN number before registering for courses.
