One of the teaching training workshops for teachers from the former Soviet Union was held in Estonia in 1995. Bananas become a favorite food of consumers in this Baltic nation after independence was gained and free trade established in the early 1990s.

These teachers attended a workshop at Lackawanna County Stadium - "Teaching Economics by Teaching Baseball" - that won a Leavey Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education. Lessons developed for this workshop will be part of a new curriculum package available through the center in 1998.

Teachers who attended the AP-PA Economics Institute are shown in this 1996 photo. The black and white photo represents the serious approach taken by these teachers as they prepared to teach Advanced Placement in economics courses. This two year program was the only one of its kind - and received support through a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Photo shows Ed and friend marching off to an Economic 410 class. Economics 410 - "Economics for Education Majors" - is a special course developed to teach education majors at the University about economics and how to teach it at any grade level.
