Scenario Summary


The Scenario Summary tool is another what-if analysis tool that can be used to forecasting outcomes. Several what-if scenarios can be saved and viewed to show projected outcomes.

How to:
  1. Open the saved spreadsheet from Exercise 2 (Loan Calculator) .
  2. Click on the menu Tools | Scenario to open the Scenario Manager.
  3. Click on the Add button and provide a scenario name.
  4. In the box Changing Cells click on the collapse dialog box to select the cell(s) that you would like to change and compare against other data. To select non-adjacent cells use Ctrl+Click.

For example
  1. Change the Interest Rate cell C4 and the term of the loan (Months) cell C7. Hold the Ctrl key down while selecting cells C4 and C7. Click on the OK button.
  2. When the Scenario Values dialog box opens enter the new values for the cells referenced. Click on the OK button.
  3. Click on the Add button to add another scenario following the former steps. In the new scenario change the values and then click on the OK button.
  4. To view a scenario first select the scenario's name. Next, click on the Show button to view the results without saving the changes.
  5. To compare the results of multiple scenarios click on the Summary button. When the Summary Scenario dialog box opens collapse the dialog box and remove any cell references by backspacing. Add any additional cells in the Summary Sheet by holding down the Ctrl key when selecting cells. Click on the OK button. A Summary Sheet is now added to the workbook displaying all scenarios and any additional cells that were selected.
