Creating Lists

Bulleted Lists

  1. Click on the Bullet button located on the Formatting Toolbar. This inserts a plain bullet.
  2. Type a few sentences and then press enter to create the next bullet.
  3. Press Enter twice to stop inserting bullets.

Creating a Sub-list in a Bulleted List

  1. Place the cursor at the end of the last item in the existing list.
  2. Press the Enter key to create another bullet, except do not type anything.
  3. Click on the Increase Indent button twice. This creates a bullet of a different style, which is nested in the original list. Add a few more items to your list.
  4. To end the nested list, press Enter. Press the Delete key to remove the last bullet. Notice that the insertion point returns to the top-level list. Click on the Bullet list button to continue with a top-level bullet.
  5. If you created a third level bulleted list and desire to return to the second-level press the Backspace key twice or click on the Decrease Indent button twice.

Combining Numbers and Bullets

Numbers and bullets cannot be varied in the same list unless they are combined within a nested list. To do this we need to apply what we learned in creating a nested list.

  1. Place the insertion point at the end of the line in the list. Click on the Increase button twice.
  2. Choose Format | Bullets & Numbering, which opens the List Properties, dialog box. Choose from one of the numbered formats supplied.
  3. Type the list, then press the Enter key. Click on the Decrease Indent button twice to return to the upper level in the list.

Hyperlinks

Linking to a Web Page inside Your Directory

  1. Select an item (text, picture) to use for your link.
  2. Create the link using one of two methods - a) right-click on the selected item and choose hyperlink from the pop up menu, or b) click on the hyperlink button located on the toolbar. This will open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
  3. Click on the web page that you want use for your link, and then click on OK.

External Linking

  1. Repeat steps 1 & 2 used in the prior example.
  2. Type the URL (http://www.scranton.edu) of page you wish to link. You can also copy and paste the link from a web browser.

Removing the Underline in Hyperlinks

  1. Highlight the hyperlink in Design view.
  2. Switch to Split or Code view and locate the <a herf....> tag to the left of the word or words you selected.
  3. Place the following between the "a"and the herf, style=”text-decoration: none”. Example: <a style= “text-decoration: none” herf=http://www.scranton.edu>

Bookmarks

Bookmarks are useful for linking content within the same page or in another web page. To create a bookmark (anchor) you need to determine a destination link.

For example: To create a "top of page"destination link we need to create an anchor in code view.

  1. Click on the tab Code view located on FrontPage’s task bar.
  2. Under the heading closing tag </head> type <a name="Top" </a>.
  3. Enter the text top of page at the bottom of your web page.
  4. Select the text and then click on the Hyperlink button located on the Formatting toolbar. When the Insert Dialog box opens click on the button Place in This Document. Click once on the Bookmark Top to select it and then click on the button OK.
  5. Test the page in a browser of your choice.

Linking to a Section of a Document

  1. Highlight a word or phrase in an existing web page. Note: that an image cannot be used as a bookmark, only text.
  2. From the Insert menu, select Bookmark. This opens the Bookmark dialog box. Choose Ok. A dashed line will appear under the newly created bookmark.
  3. If the active page (the current page that is open) contains the bookmark, select a word or phrase to use as the hyperlink. Choose Insert | Hyperlink or click on the Hyperlink button on the Formatting Toolbar. The Create Hyperlink dialog box appears.
  4. Click on the menu “Place in This Document from the left hand menu.” Select the Bookmark from the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.

Adding a Mail Link

In FrontPage, you can use text or an image for an e-mail link.

To add a mail link:

  1. Select an image or some text. For example, text for e-mail hyperlinks may be a name or a label such as "Contact Us" or "More Information."
  2. Click on the Hyperlink button located on the Formatting Toolbar. When the dialog box opens click on the third button located to the right of the URL text box. Click on the button OK and the link is established.
