Microsoft Publisher 2003
Introduction
Microsoft Publisher is a desktop publishing tool used to create professional looking publications in response to user input. This software employs a wizard interface that creates publications by design or categories. One of the most notable features of this software is that the publication remains linked even after creation providing easy revisions for future use.
What's New!
Improvements to the new Publisher include 10 new Master Design templates and publication types that make creating your publication easier. Other enhancements include new page layout and sorter tools, improved paragraph formatting, and a new Graphics Manager.
Creating a New Publication
When Microsoft Publisher starts, the Task Pane opens within the program's work area. Anyone who used the previouse version recognizes the Task Pane as a short-cut menu to several different work areas.
To create new publications select from one of the four categories Publication for Print, Web Sites and E-mail, Design Sets, and Blank Publications. Next, expand the category by clicking on the heading to expose the related submenus. Each submenu provides additional options that allow the user to customize the layout, color, and font schemes for each of the forty-five design sets.
Getting Acquainted
The menu bars and toolbars resemble those of other Office products with commands executed by clicking on an active icon (label). The Standard Toolbar displays the familiar icons for cut, paste, print, and undo/redo. The only exception is the Formatting Toolbar whereas active icons change in accordance with the tool or object selected.
Other toolbars include:
- The Objects Toolbar, which is used to create and select objects.
- The 3-D Settings Toolbar, which is used to add 3-D effects like color, rotation, depth, and lighting to an object.
- The Shadow Settings Toolbar, which is used for applying shadows to a selected object.
- The Measurements Toolbar, which displays the location, width, height, rotation, text scale, and other measurements of a selected container for text.
