This useful tool, located on the Standard Toolbar in Microsoft Office applications allows you to copy and apply numerous formatting options (borders, fills, text formats).

Click on the video icon for a demonstration.

How to in Excel:

  1. In an existing worksheet, format four adjacent cells differently.
  2. Click inside the first cell and change the content's font.
  3. Click inside the second cell and "Bold" the content.
  4. Click inside the third cell and "Italicize" the content.
  5. Click inside the fourth cell and change the contents font color.
  6. Drag your mouse pointer across the four adjacent cells.
  7. Double click on the "Format Painter icon" to copy the four different formats.
  8. Apply the different formats by dragging your mouse pointer across four different cells to format.
  9. Press the "Esc key" to stop formatting.
