Microsoft Excel 2007 - Formatting Numbers & Cells

Click on the video icon for a demonstration.


  1. Click in cell A1 and drag the mouse pointer across to cell D1.
  2. On the Home tab click the down arrow next to the Merge & Center command.
  3. Click the command Merge Across and then type The University of Scranton.
  4. In the group Styles click the command button Cell Styles and select Heading 2.

Formatting Numbers

  1. Type the number 12 in cell B3. Press the Enter or Tab key, then reselect the cell.
  2. In the group Number click the down arrow next to General and the select Currency.
  3. Change the number format several times by repeating Step 2. Stop at Date and then change format back to Currency.
  4. Auto format the column width by double clicking the line between the columns D and E.

Using the Auto Fill Handle

  1. Type Monday in cell B2. Press the Enter or Tab key and then reselect cell B2.
  2. Drag the Auto Fill handle to cell H2.
  3. Change the orientation of the text. In the group Alignment click on the command button Orientation and then AngleCounterclockwise.
  4. In the group Styles click the command button Cell Styles and the apply a style. The next step in the video demonstrates using the Auto fill command.

Wrap Text

  1. In cell A5 type Text Wrap.
  2. Click the command button Wrap Text located in the group Alignment.

Editing Formats

  1. Select the cell range B2:H2.
  2. Click on the command button Clear and then Clear Formats. The applied styles and text orientation have been removed.
