Adding a Table
To create a table in SharePoint click on the icon Insert Table on the Common Toolbar and then drag the mouse pointer vertically across to add more than one column and down to add more than one row.
To change the properties of the table right-click on the table to open the Table Properties dialog box. The dialog box allows you to change the table’s alignment, specify the table’s width, increase or decrease cell padding and cell spacing, and assign a border to the table.

Alignment: sets the position of the table to either default, left, right, or center.
Specify width: controls the size of the table. Pixels are used for fixed widths; Percent is used to control the width of the cell or cells as a percentage of the table’ Float: determines how text is to flow around the table.
Cell padding: increases the space between the table text and the cell.
Cell spacing: controls the amount of space inserted between the table’s cells.

Size: the thickness of a table’s border increases with each number after zero. A zero border produces no border in a web browser. Color: usually transparent, although a user may elect to assign a color by clicking on the drop down arrow.

HTML Tags
SharePoint Designer utilizes a set of html tags (commands) for adding a line break, new paragraph, horizontal line, or inserting an image. Most users will only the basic tools.
Inserting a Line Break
Click on the menus Insert | HTML | Break to open the Break dialog box.
Choose one of the options listed.
- Normal Line Break – The same line break as applied by pressing Shift+Enter keys. Text resumes flowing exactly one line below where the break was applied. Clear
- Left Margin – If applied to text flowing around a picture or object aligned at the left margin the text will flow directly below the object.
- Clear Right Margin - If applied to text flowing around a picture or object aligned at the right margin the text will flow directly below the object.
- Clear Both Margins – If applied to text flowing around a picture or object aligned at either or both margins the text will flow directly below the object.
Inserting a Horizontal Line
- Click on the menus Insert | HTML | Horizontal Line.
- To format the Horizontal Line open the Horizontal Line Properties dialog box by:
- Click twice on the horizontal line
- Right-click on the horizontal line and then choose Horizontal Line Properties
- Use the menus provided to change the line’s width, height, alignment, and color.
