Creating Lists

Bulleted Lists

  1. Click the Bullet icon located on the Common Toolbar. This inserts a plain bullet.
  2. Type a few sentences and then press enter to create the next bullet.
  3. Press Enter twice to stop inserting bullets.

Creating a Sub-list in a Bulleted List

  1. Place the cursor at the end of the last item in the existing list.
  2. Press the Enter key to create another bullet, except do not type anything.
  3. Click on the Increase Indent icon twice. This creates a bullet of a different style, which is nested in the original list. Add a few more items to your list.
  4. To end the nested list, press Enter. Press the Delete key to remove the last bullet. Notice that the insertion point returns to the top-level list. Click the Bullet list icon to continue with a top-level bullet.
  5. If you created a third level bulleted list and desire to return to the second-level press the Backspace key twice or click on the Decrease Indent icon twice.

Combining Numbers and Bullets

Numbers and bullets cannot be varied in the same list unless they are combined within a nested list. To do this we need to apply what we learned in creating a nested list.

  1. Place the insertion point at the end of the line in the list.
  2. Click on the Increase icon twice. Choose Format | Bullets & Numbering, which opens the List Properties dialog box. Choose from one of the numbered formats supplied.

Type the list, then press the Enter key. Click on the Decrease Indent icon twice to return to the upper level in the list.
