Jay Parini to Receive Distinguished Author Award (Spring 2012
On September 29, 2012, the Friends of the Weinberg Memorial Library will present the Royden B. Davis Distinguished Author Award to Jay Parini. This event is one of several planned to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Weinberg Memorial Library. > Full story
Dean Awards Information Literacy Stipends (Spring 2012)
Dean Charles Kratz announced that four Information Literacy Stipends were granted by the Weinberg Memorial Library for the 2012 spring semester. One full-time and three part-time faculty members will receive grants of $1,000 each upon submission of their reports documenting the impact that the information literacy component had on student learning outcomes as identified in their grant proposals. > Full story
Zaner-Bloser Alphabet Exhibit (Spring 2012)
The Heritage Room will feature an eye-catching exhibit of Alphabets from the Zaner-Bloser Collection. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Zaner-Bloser was a leader in penmanship and calligraphy instruction. > Full story
Recognizing Rose Kelly Award Recipients (Spring 2012)
The Rose I. Kelly Award was established by University of Scranton Alumnus Joseph Wineburgh, Ph.D., to link the efforts of educators to the achievements of college students. > Full story
Frank O'Hara Awards Presented (Spring 2012)
Frank O'Hara Awards are presented to first-, second- and third-year undergraduate students with the highest grade point average in each of the four undergraduate colleges of the University; and to graduate students with the highest grade point average who are approximately halfway through their program of study in the areas of business, counseling, education, humanities, health administration/human resources administration, Scranton education online, science, and physical therapy. > Full story
A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs Exhibit Comes to Heritage Room (Fall 2011)
The Heritage Room will be hosting an American Library Association exhibit titled "A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs" from Friday, Sept. 9, through Sunday, Oct. 23. This traveling panel exhibit celebrates American popular song during the period 1910 to 1965. > Full story
Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Collection Grows (Fall 2011)
The Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Collection continues to grow, with the addition of a couple hundred printing blocks recently retrieved from the company warehouse in Columbus, Ohio. > Full Story

Library Gaming A Lot of Fun (Fall 2010)
Library gaming might seem like an oxymoron to some people, but here at the Weinberg Memorial Library we think the two make a perfect match. It shouldn't be a surprise to hear that libraries have evolved quite a bit over time and librarians have been quick to roll with the punches.

Helen Suzman: Fighter for Human Rights (Fall 2010)
The Heritage Room will be hosting a traveling exhibit titled "Helen Suzman: Fighter for Human Rights" from Aug. 31 to Oct. 25. Suzman, over the course of a nearly four-decade political career, was one of South Africa's most vociferous and energetic opponents of apartheid.
The exhibit, which features 29 hanging panels utilizing photographs, personal letters and political speeches, portrays Suzman's often solitary fight within the South African Parliament against apartheid, her work with anti-apartheid activists outside the government, and her friendship with Nelson Mandela, after meeting him in 1967 at the Robben Island Prison. It portrays the hostility and anti-Semitism she faced during her 36-year career in parliament (1953-1989) and while fighting apartheid. > Full story

- The librarians of the Weinberg Memorial Library participated in their first departmental retreat on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Bonnie Oldham, Coordinator of Information Literacy and Kristin Yarmey-Tylutki, Digital Services Librarian initiated the retreat to help the various departments in the library integrate their individual activities and projects with the overall strategic plan of the library and the University. > Full story

- Abraham Lincoln is the focus of a second traveling exhibit and a conference during the bicentennial anniversary of his birth. "Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation," an American Library Association exhibit, will visit the Heritage Room of the Weinberg Library from February 8 through March 20, 2009. > Full story

- The Weinberg Library is honored to host another exhibit from the Edward R. Leahy Collection. An exhibit on Samuel Johnson and his biographer James Boswell is scheduled for the Heritage Room during fall semester 2009 in honor of Johnson's 300th birthday. > Full story
- Letters to Sala Exhibit a Success (Spring 2009)
- The New York Public Library traveling exhibit Letters to Sala received a tremendous response from the local community during its autumn run. The exhibit was brought to the Heritage Room through the efforts of Tova Weiss and the Holocaust Education Resource Center. > Full story

- "Letters to Sala: A Young Woman's Life in Nazi Labor Camps" is a striking exhibition reproducing the letters, postcards, photographs, and personal documents that Sala Garncarz managed to save during five brutal years in Nazi work camps during World War II. > Full story

- Mary Gordon to Receive Distinguished Author Award (Spring 2008)
- Mary Gordon, author of novels, short stories and non-fiction will be honored on May 3, 2008, with the Royden B. Davis Distinguished Author Award at 5:00 p.m. in the Ballroom of the DeNaples Campus Center. She is the McIntosh Professor of English at Barnard College. > Full story

The Frank O'Hara and Rose Kelly Awards (Spring 2008) - On December 6, 2007, The University of Scranton celebrated excellence during an award dinner sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence.
