Beta Gamma Sigma

The mission of Beta Gamma Sigma is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, and personal and professional excellence in the practice of business.  This mission is exemplified in the five objectives of the Society.  These objectives include:

  1. Encourage and honor high academic achievement by students of business and management through chapters in AACSB accredited programs.
  2. Foster in Beta Gamma Sigma members an enduring commitment to the founding principles and values of the Society: honor and integrity, pursuit of wisdom, and earnestness.
  3. Support the advancement of business thought, at both the Society and chapter levels, so as to encourage lifelong learning for members and other constituents.
  4. Enhance the value of Beta Gamma Sigma for student and alumni members in their professional lives.
  5. Enhance the visibility and reputation of Beta Gamma Sigma.
Beta Gamma Sigma chapters may be formed only in schools which have received accreditation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).  The University of Scranton chapter was established in 1997 soon after our School of Management received its full AACSB accreditation.

Students who are invited to join Beta Gamma Sigma rank in the top of their classes.  Juniors whose cumulative grade point averages are in the highest 7%, seniors whose grade point averages are in the highest 10%, and MBA students whose grade point averages rank in the top 20% of their respective classes are invited to join.

May, 2001, saw the induction of our latest group of talented students into Beta Gamma Sigma.  Erich Schauer is the winner of this year's $1000 scholarship. We're proud of you, Erich! Before the ceremony began, new inductees gathered on the Fifth Floor of the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Memorial Library for a group photo:
