Course Information

Computer and Information literacy is a general education requirement at the University of Scranton which can be fulfilled by taking this course. C/IL 104 and C/IL 104L are for school of management students. (Non-school of Management students take C/IL 102 and C/IL 102L instead.)

These two courses go together. The first course (C/IL 104) is lecture based and the second course is a lab (C/IL 104L). You will receive the same grade for each course. In order to receive credit for either course you must enroll in both courses. The only exception is if you have previously taken both C/IL 104 and C/IL 104L (or C/IL 102 and C/IL 102L) and satisfied the requirements for one of the courses but not both. In this case you may take part for which you previously did not receive credit. If you drop one course, you must drop the other course as well. In order to satisfy the general education requirement you must receive a grade of C or better in both C/IL 104 and C/IL 104L. A grade of C- does not satisfy the requirement. A student may not receive credit for more than one computer literacy sequence: CMPS 102, CMPS 104, C/IL 102/102L, C/IL 104/104L, C/IL 106/106L, or C/IL 108/108L. These courses may not be taken pass/fail.

Course Goals:

1)                  To develop basic computer literacy skills.

2)                  To understand basic computing processes and theories.

3)                  To become familiar with various information sources available at the University of Scranton, and

4)                  To understand computers within the context of businesses and organizations.
