I love racing. I used to do it on the amateur level and had a
blast! My older brother, Bill, also raced. He raced off-road
cars and when I was young, he won both the Baja 1,000 and the Off Road
National Championship in his class (at one point he also held a world speed
record, which he set in a specially prepared Lotus). I still follow
motor vehicle racing very closely. Two National Championship motocross
events are held near Scranton every year. One at Broome-tioga, near
Binghamton, and the other at Unadilla, which is northeast of Binghamton.
Both places are about a 90 minute drive from Scranton. I started
to once again attend these events a few years back and couldn't believe
how much fun I had. Locally, we have an amateur racetrack at Clifford,
which is about 20 minutes from downtown Scranton. Even the amateurs
are a heck of a lot of fun to watch.
