Making Posters Using Word
You'll Have a 3 Foot Wide by 4 Foot
Tall Space:
Use it Wisely!!

Set your margins (Choose Page Setup from the File Menu,then
go to Margins).

Top/Bottom = .25"
-
Left = .29"
-
Right = 1.75"
(*Note:
the right margins are off-center so you can trim off 1.5" from the right
side. This will give you perfect 1" margins on your poster)
Do NOT number pages

Title - use [we suggest, but you can pick your font (NOT
courier new)] Something from the Sans family, Bold, 96 Point
-
Name - Same as above (or font of choice), Bold, 64 Point
(*Note: you will have to play with the font sizes [Point
Size], until you can fit your title and name on one (1) legal landscape
page.)
When working on the title and name poster, change your
paper orientation to landscape (on the Paper Size menu under Page Setup).

Headings - some Sans (or font of choice), Bold, 24 Point

Text - same as above (or font of choice), 18 Point - Do NOT
use Bold

Double space after headings (OPTIONAL - See how it looks)

Double space between paragraphs and do not tab the first
sentence of a new paragraph

SAVE A TREE!! Preview your document BEFORE printing
(go to Page Layout View, then choose "whole
page" or 29% from Zoom Control).
WHEN PRINTING ON LEGAL PAPER:
1. Before typing anything else in your document - change
to
legal paper:

Go to Page Setup, then select the Paper Size menu

Chose Legal
-
If you want to print sideways on the page, chose Landscape
under "Orientation."
2. When you are printing your "legal" page(s), DO NOT PUT
THE LEGAL PAPER UNTIL THE PRINTER
ASKS FOR
IT!! (Look in the message window on
the top right hand
corner!)
