Sniffy’s Behaviors

Remember, you are pretending that you are in Dr. Fanslow's lab with Dr. Timmy Cannon (class of 1971) and Jen Quinn (class of 1997). Your objective is to observe rats' and their behaviors.  At the beep you will look up and record the rats behavior.  You are not to watch Sniffy in between the beeps but look at your lap or off the computer screen.

Remember don't start observing until the 2nd beep.

Operational Definitions:

Freezing- defined as no movement - not even sniffing

Rearing-  the rat rearing up on its hind legs without having its front paws touching any surface

Touch (Face)- the rat rubbing its face 

Grooming- the rat rubbing and or licking any body part other than face

Other- any other behavior

Behaviors Coded to Record on Data Sheet

F - Freezing

R - Rearing

T - Face Touch

G - Grooming

O - Other

Remember don't start observing until the beep and don't peak in between beeps.
