Instructions for publishing using Nvu
*Your should be saved before publishing Click to go to "Saving Work"
-
Click Publishing Button (top of the page associated with it is a blue globe with a green arrow)
- Enter Site name (This name is arbitrary.)
- In the publishing server box put ftp://tiger.scranton.edu/
- Enter Your User name in the User name box and your password in the
password box (click to check the "save password so you don't keep
having to put you password in over and over again)
- Click on the "Publish" Tab at the top of the window
- Enter file name, if needed. Remember that here
homepages must be "default" (You don't have to worry about the .html at
the end of the name - Nvu will take care of that.)
- Click the publish button on the bottom of the page
- Make sure a window pops up that has the title of
the
page you are
trying to publish with a "thinking" box in front of it that turns into
a green check. If you do not see this box Nvu may be having a
problem. Since you've saved your work, you can safely turn off
Nvu and then turn it back on. Typically, this fixes the '"no box"
problem. If you are getting other sorts of error messages that
you can't figure out, get the file you've been working on to somewhere
safe. If you're on your home machine, that means just saving it.
In our public labs, you should e-mail the file to yourself to get
it off the lab machine. These machines wipe themselves clean on
every reboot.
