Test Position

  • Subject sitting with forearm resting on table
  • Stabilize forearm to prevent pronation or supination

Normal Range

  • 35o + or - 3.8o (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons)
  • 30o (American Medical Association)
  • 36.0o (mean), 3.8o (standard deviation), (Boon and Azen)

Goniometer Alignment

  • Axis – capitate
  • Stationary arm – aligned with forearm (lateral epicondyle)
  • Moving arm – aligned with metacarpal of middle finger

Normal End Feel

  • Ligamentous (radial collateral ligament)
