GONIOMETRY — MANUAL MUSCLE TESTING — MUSCLE LENGTH CRITERIA

GONIOMETRY:

  1. Position in zero position and stabilize proximal joint component. (1 point)

  3. Identify and palpate bony landmarks. (1 point)
  4. Align goniometer. (1 point)
  5. Read goniometer and record measurement. (1 point)

MANUAL MUSCLE TESTING:

  1. Position subject to provide best stabilization. (1 point)
  2. Stabilize proximal body part. (1 point)
  3. Use test position or test movement. (1 point)
  4. Apply pressure opposite the direction body part moves when the test muscle contracts or allow body part to move through horizontal test movement if too weak. (1 point)
  5. Evaluate and record grade. (1 point)

MUSCLE LENGTH TESTING:

  1. Position subject appropriately. (1 point)
  2. Stabilize appropriate muscle attachment. (1 point)
