HIGHER EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

I have worked in higher education for more than thirty-six years, as a faculty member, departmental chairperson, dean, vice-president, and provost, at three difference universities.  I was a full time administrator for twenty-seven years.

During that time I developed several new core curricula, a great range of new academic programs, several new academic departments, and two new colleges.  I established innovative—and successful—faculty and administrative development programs, after having recruited and hired a dozen deans and more than a hundred faculty. I’ve devised new planning processes (linked to resource allocation and reallocation), and have been responsible for the writing of several new mission statements and institutional strategic plans.  I have also headed several facilities renovation and construction projects and participated (as one of the major principals) in the development of several campus master plans.

I have combined these practical experiences in higher education management with research and publication on a variety of topics.  For example, having served as a member of the National Seminar on Jesuit Higher Education, I have written on a number of issues related to mission and identity in church-related colleges and universities. CONSULTING

In addition to practical administrative work and research on higher education, I have done some occasional consulting work for colleges and universities.  That work has occurred principally in the following areas, in which I have established expertise:

  • Curricula and Program Development
  • Faculty and Administrative Development
  • Institutional Planning (and Resource Allocation/Reallocation)
  • Mission and Identity in Church Related Institutions
  • Facilities Planning

As I prepare to return to the classroom, I am willing to continue to do consulting in areas in which I have experience and expertise.

The following people have expressed their willingness to attest to the quality of my work:
