TRIP DESCRIPTION
An opportunity to enhance the academic experience is offered to a limited number of students. For two weeks this summer, travel to Russia and experience the romance of "white nights" in the fabled capital of Czarist Russia: St. Petersburg, walk along the Kremlin wall, view the imperial jewels in Moscow, and above all experience first hand the birth pangs of a fledgling market economy first hand. It will be an experience of a lifetime!
Dr. Chattopadhyay, Assistant Professor of Marketing and the University of Scranton Faculty Coordinator of the Mission to Russia will be escorting the group on this, his third visit to Russia in two years. Trans-Atlantic travel will be arranged directly with Northwest/KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The staff functions in Russia will be provided by an American joint venture organization: Agora USA Inc. The group will be taken through a comprehensive program encompassing cultural, historic and economic panorama of the enigma that is the Russian Federation. Bi-lingual liaisons and escorts will ensure quality of the experience, assuring safety and comfort level of participants.
Participants will be housed in dormitories and provided with nourishing meals. Visits to performances of ballet and circus, as well as internationally renowned museums of art and artifacts in St. Petersburg and Moscow will be highlights of the mission. A very important aspect of the mission will be the meetings arranged with government officials and executives of private Russian and joint venture firms where participants will be able to have their questions on aspects of the Russian economy and management practice answered. The mission will encourage and promote interaction of participants with Russians from all walks of life in order to foster understanding and goodwill between the US and Russian Federation.
Participants can obtain academic credit by registering for MK 480 Special Topics (International Markets- Focus on Russia) in Summer I 1995, paying half price tuition, and completing specific academic requirements. It is possible to arrange for graduate credit as a reader course by arrangement.
