Catalogue Description: This didactic and seminar course provides an intermediate study of levels of theory construction and the nursing research process. Utilization of research by nurses will be examined. Emphasis will be the integration of theoretical elements in the development of a research proposal.

2. Utilize research findings in the solution of a clinical practice problem.
3. Analyze theoretical and practical issues in the nursing research process.
4. Integrate concepts in the development of a nursing research proposal.
5. Demonstrate the appropriateness of a theoretical-conceptual framework for an empirical study.
6. Formulate hypotheses, objectives or research questions that provide direction for the expected outcomes of a study.
7. Select a research design that is logical and appropriate for the research hypotheses or research questions of a study.
8. Analyze the measurement of variables in terms of their consistency with the theoretical framework, reliability, and validity.
9. Choose data analysis techniques appropriate for selected research hypotheses.
10. Synthesize theoretical knowledge of research in the development of a proposal for research or research utilization.
Content: The course content will focus on the integration of research with nursing practice. Information from the literature will be used to develop a research utilization project. The major focus of the course will be the synthesis of the knowledge and skills necessary to plan the methodology for a proposal for research or its utilization. Emphasis will be on specific strategies needed for the incorporation of research into the advanced practice role.
