Dartmouth Medical School

The students who reported about their interview day at Dartmouth Medical School traveled to the school the night before the interview and were accompanied by a parent or friend. A student host program was offered, but students typically chose to stay at a hotel nearby. Students should consider that if the interview is during the winter months, they should allow for ample travel time due to the snow.

There were two interviews on the interview day, both with a faculty or staff member. These were both very conversational. The questions that students reported being asked included:

- "Why do you want to be a doctor?"
- "Why do you want to go to Dartmouth?"
- "What do you feel is your biggest flaw and how will this affect your professional career?"
- "Please tell me about yourself."
- "What do you like to do in your spare time?"
- "What were your three fav orite classes thus far in college, and why?"

Besides the interview, students were also given a tour of the medical school and the hospital. The hospital was about 15 minutes away, but a shuttle was provided. Some of the interviews took place in the hospital, while others took place on the medical campus. The shuttle was available to ease transportation. Students remarked that the hospital facilities were a definite attractor for many to Dartmouth. Students also rece ived information about admissions and financial aid. Staff members discussed in great detail the Brown-Dartmouth Program, and then students were asked to choose whether they would like to participate in that program or remain at Dartmouth for all four years. The Admissions Committee needs an answer to this question prior to discussing your application, so come prepared with an answer as to the program in which you would like to participate. Students were also given lunch in the hospital cafeteria.

Because of the weather at Dartmouth, most students are involved with many outdoor sports. Be sure to inquire about the things that students do outside the classroom. This is very important in your decision process and is stressed by the Dartmouth students. Overall, this interview day was considered to be somewhat easy by many students.
