Teachers,
Technology and Portfolios - Changing Pedagogy and Assessment in the Information
Age
Pre service teachers will create web based,
digital portfolios, which
are used as assessment tools in the evaluation
of their preparation to
teach in a global and technologically
oriented society. The portfolio
strategy is an assessment tool that allows
the gathering of multiple
measures during the teacher preparation
program. Web based portfolios
serve a two-fold purpose:
-
as evidence of their development as reflective
practitioners
-
as a vehicle for developing teaching competencies
essential in providing pre service teachers with the knowledge, skills
and experience to effectively integrate technology in teaching.
Pre service teachers will be trained
in the creation of web based
digital portfolios that will incorporate
technology driven instructional
plans thus preparing them to fully integrate
technology into the
learning experience. University
faculty will also be trained in
portfolio creation so they can appropriately
guide their students. In
addition, faculty will be trained in the
evaluation process of these
portfolios.
