My position as LAN
Administrator/Lab Analyst is to Support all public and
departmental labs on campus. The primary focus of my job is to
keep the labs up and running on a daily basis. I spend a lot of
my time solving either application, operating system, or network
problems. The types of labs vary from departmental workgroups to Novell LANs and there are even a
couple Microsoft NT servers.
The functions in the labs varies, but we try to keep the same look and feel across the campus. This makes for some intersting challenges sometimes, but that where good customer service skills, documentation, and lots of notes come in handy. I am constantly performing updates, to various software applications, hardware images and software images. The hardware images are created from a program called GHOST. We use a program called PC-Rdist for the software imaging and rebuilding process for all server based labs.
I currently support a variety of software packages including, Windows 3.X, Windows 95, Windows NT, Microsoft Office 97, HotDog Pro, Lotus Smart Suite97, Netscape Navigator, WordPerfect, Adobe Acrobat, OnNet32, RealPlayer, Novell Client32, McAfee Anti-Virus, SigiPlus, FoolProof, and other specialized departmental applications.
