What is Tutoring?

Tutoring is, by definition, a one-to-one or small group activity where a knowledgeable person with expertise in a specific content area or discipline provides tutelage, help, or clarification to one or more students.

Peer tutoring is an integral part of the Center for Teaching & Learning Excellence because it provides an environment for students to become self-regulated learners. A successful tutor identifies the needs of students, interacts skillfully and knowledgeably with a wide variety of students, and assumes roles that meet the individual needs of tutees in ways that complement the professors' teaching style.
