Tutor Responsibilities
When you are assigned a new tutee
- Check your e-mail regularly for new tutee assignments.
- Contact your new tutee within 24 – 48 hours of receiving the emailed assignment from the CTLE.
- Schedule your session with the new tutee. When scheduling the session, try to schedule it at the same time each week (i.e. Fridays at 3:00 PM) so that it can become part of the student’s routine.
- Clarify where you will be meeting the student in the CTLE. It is recommended that you meet in the reception area by the Writing Center.
During the tutoring session
- Sign in on the blue sheets hanging in the Tutoring Center.
- Please use any of the available tutoring rooms. If there are no tutoring rooms available, see Mary Ellen Pichiarello (Room 577) or Tom Leong (Room 582E) for other options.
- Complete and review the tutorial agreement with the student during the first ten minutes of the initial session.
- Return the completed tutorial agreement to the rack in the Tutoring Center or to Mary Ellen Pichiarello (Room 577).
Students must receive a minimum of one hour of tutoring per week and a maximum of two hours per week. Tutoring sessions cannot exceed 1 hour in length! Another tutoring session at a different time during the week should be scheduled if needed.
After the tutoring session
- Confirm the date and time of the next tutoring session.
- Enter your work study hours and progress notes into UIS. Please refer to the Record-Keeping and Paperwork Module for directions on how to do so.
