Tutor Responsibilities

When you are assigned a new tutee

  1. Check your e-mail regularly for new tutee assignments.
  2. Contact your new tutee within 24 – 48 hours of receiving the emailed assignment from the CTLE.
  3. Schedule your session with the new tutee. When scheduling the session, try to schedule it at the same time each week (i.e. Fridays at 3:00 PM) so that it can become part of the student’s routine.
  4. Clarify where you will be meeting the student in the CTLE. It is recommended that you meet in the reception area by the Writing Center.

During the tutoring session

  1. Sign in on the blue sheets hanging in the Tutoring Center.
  2. Please use any of the available tutoring rooms. If there are no tutoring rooms available, see Mary Ellen Pichiarello (Room 577) or Tom Leong (Room 582E) for other options.
  3. Complete and review the tutorial agreement with the student during the first ten minutes of the initial session.
  4. Return the completed tutorial agreement to the rack in the Tutoring Center or to Mary Ellen Pichiarello (Room 577).

Students must receive a minimum of one hour of tutoring per week and a maximum of two hours per week. Tutoring sessions cannot exceed 1 hour in length! Another tutoring session at a different time during the week should be scheduled if needed.

After the tutoring session

  1. Confirm the date and time of the next tutoring session.
  2. Enter your work study hours and progress notes into UIS. Please refer to the Record-Keeping and Paperwork Module for directions on how to do so.
