The picture on the left is a photograph taken of brain tissue mounted
on a slide. The tissue was cut into 50 micron thick coronal sections on
a freezing microtime. After being mounted on a slide, the tissue was
nissel stained. The stain adheres to cell bodies, and therefore the
dark patches in the photo are nuclear groups and the white patches are
connective tissues.
