This paper discusses the
causes of excessive alcohol consumption in adolescents transitioning into young
adulthood. It looks at genetic and environmental factors that may predispose
this age range to become excessive drinkers. The results of the study show that
both men and women increase in alcohol consumption between 17 and 20 years of
age, but male drinking is more genetically related while female drinking is
related to shared and non-shared environmental influences.
I found this paper to be interesting and I feel as though I
learned something that may be useful later down the road. I didn’t think that
men and women drank for two extremely different reasons. I think for women it
is more of a social lubricant and for men it is a natural urge.
