Testing is the only way to tell someone had HIV until they
get the syndrome, AIDS. AIDS symptoms develop 10 years after infection,
on average. Early indicators are extremely swollen lymph glands, slight
fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. Then there are usually no symptoms
for many years.
The later symptoms of HIV disease are:
- Yeast infection which causes thick white coating in mouth area
- Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease
- Extreme fatigue combined with severe headaches and dizziness
- Rapid loss of weight
- Bruising easier then normal
- Long-lasting diarrhea
- Night sweats
- Severe numbness in limbs
- Loss of muscular strength
- Purplish discoloration in skin especially around the mouth
- Unusual skin rashes
- Chronic deep cough
- Shortness of breath
- Hardening of glands
- Unexplained bleeding
