The Effects of Hallucinogenic Drugs vs. Non-Hallucinogenic Drugs on Paranormal
Belief and Experience
Ariele Garofalo
The discipline of parapsychology has not yet been extensively researched.
The research that has been done within this discipline sometimes studies
the interplay of paranormal belief and drug usage. Many parapsychological
studies, which supported a correlation between paranormal belief and experience
with drug usage, did not attempt to correlate any specific kind of drug with
paranormal belief/experience. The specific purpose of this study was a follow-up
to many of these previous studies in an attempt to correlate a specific drug
used with paranormal belief and experience. Because hallucinatory drugs alter
the user’s perception of reality, it was hypothesized that the hallucinogens,
in particular would have a higher correlation with paranormal belief/experience
than the non-hallucinatory drugs had on paranormal belief/experience.
