Method
Participants:
- Two groups of individuals: one group with no history of
a mental disorder or panic attacks and the other contains those who
have a history of panic disorder but no other diagnosed mental illness
- Each group is expected to have 24 participants after elimination - 12 males and 12 females
- Age range: 18-25
- Will be recruited through newspaper ads and diagnostic clinics
Procedure:
- All participants take the BDI and have a PET scan
- Participants are eliminated if the PET scan shows any type of brain damage
- Each remaining participant from the Panic group is yoked to a member of the Control group according to BDI results
- After a panic attack, both the individual and their Control group partner retake the BDI and have another PET scan
- Paired t-tests and Pearson correlations will be used to test for significance
