The folklore Society of N.E. Pennsylvania meets on the first of each month in members' homes to share in song, acoustic music and storytelling, often with a pot-luck dinner.
Supporting self-reliant traditions, the Folklore Society co-sponsors many activities and entertainments each year. If you are not on our mailing and would like to be, just send $12 for one year's membership and subscription to the BROADSHEET to our editor and artist: John Oakes, R.D.1 Box 398, Olyphant, Pa 18447. American
Cancer Society
I've been going to area middle schools talking to the students about tobacco addiction for the Cancer Society.
I teach Scranton Pa. area 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders what addiction is and what tobacco does to human beings, teach them refusal skills, engage them in a great little role play about peer pressures to use tobacco, and teach them a song to sing along to about saying no to tobacco. For more information contact my e-mail address or call the Lackawanna County American Cancer Society and ask for Dolly Woody, Director.
C.C.D.
For the past 8 years I've had the pleasure of teaching C.C.D. for Our Lady of the Abingtons Catholic Church.
My first 6 years was with the 5th grade and the last 2 years has been with the 8th grade. If you've got stories to swap or problems to brainstorm I'd love to hear from you.
Cooperative
Games
I've been leading a workshop on cooperative games at a folksong weekend every year and I'm always looking for folks to swap games with. We really have a ball.
Chicory House
I am involved with N.E. Pa.'s only non-profit, volunteer-run folk club, The Chicory House in downtown Wilkes Barre Pa.(http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/7645/) as their more-often-than-not M.C. Great music, good food, and good friends.
