This article deals with the research done on
teenagers and the role of gender identity on measures such as self-
perception. The 229 teenagers were measured through questionnaires
regarding their thoughts on gender roles and their own ideas about
their self-concepts. The research indicated that there was a
relationship between acceptance by fellow adolescents and self-esteem
and self-concept. The results allowed the researchers to group the
teenagers into four different groups based on the responses to the
questionnaires.
The research done shows a lot about how adolescents
view themselves since the data are determined by questionnaires.
Perception of gender roles and identities plays an important part in
adolescent activity and livelihood since the age is typified by peer
acceptance. Peers have the most influence over general happiness and
comfort during this time period and thus research regarding how they
view themselves and others in regard to gender can be relatively useful
when dealing with teenagers in various settings such as school
classrooms or even therapy sessions.
